I just heard of Gay’s death and am saddened though I had not been a part of her life for decades. She was in our dorm at Colby and she and I worked together on the school newspaper. She did everything and I wrote the editorials.

We had many interesting and fun times together. Most vivid is my memory of a trip we made to NYC with a group. The rest of us were riveted to our hotel rooms when we were not touring. Not Gay. One night, she dressed up in great droopy diamond earrings and a classy long shimmery dress and spent the early hours of the day playing “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” When she returned to the hotel, we were all still awake. She regaled us with stories about her adventure. Most exciting and memorable was an older man is a limo who may have wanted to take her to coffee.

Her spirit will never die. I was so enchanted with her photos. Most of the Gays in them, I do not recognize but in the few that I do or the glimpses of our young friend brought back the wonder of Gay.
